Bernard Cornwell's books about the adventures of British soldier Richard Sharpe during the Napoleonic Wars have been Sharpes Rifles book by millions, mixing – as they do – a combination of action, combat, and historical research. However, readers can have difficulty putting the many volumes into chronological order, especially as the author has written many prequels and sequels.

But Sharpe's Rifles is also a rousing adventure story, with plot twists that take you straight to the end, loads of descriptions, and even a bit of romance. Highly researched, the book is chock-full of historical detail, which I love, since it puts you right into the period/5.

He moves up the ladder and becomes a sergeant in the book Sharpe’s Tiger. After many twists and turns Richard Sharpe eventually becomes a Lieutenant Colonel in the book Sharpe’s Waterloo. All the stories penned under the Sharpe series talk about the various struggles he goes through for winning acceptance not only from his peers and fellow.

Sharpe's mission had seemed simple: capture a small unguarded French coastal fort, cripple Napoleon's supply lines, and retreat across the sea. But behind the lines, Sharpe's old enemy, Pierre Ducos, awaits Sharpe's arrival with a battalion of French soldiers and a vicious commanding general who keeps the scalps of his dead enemies as trophies.

Sharpe's Rifles and the Spanish face several attacks from the murderous French and there is a love interest in Louisa, a Methodist English girl with a horror of an aunt - who is firmly put in her place by a "foul mouthed" Sharpe!/5().

Cornwell's series charts Richard Sharpe's progress in the British Army during the Napoleonic Wars. He begins in Sharpe's Tiger as a Private in the 33rd Regiment of foot, who becomes a Sergeant by the end of the book, and an Ensign in the 74th Regiment who is transferred to the newly formed 95th Rifles as a Second-Lieutenant during Sharpe's Trafalga.

The story recounts Sharpe's exploits after the retreat to Corruna. Sharpe's battalion, acting as rearguard to the army, are scattered by a squadron of French cavalry. From then, the story follows the small band of 31 isolated riflemen of the 95th Rifles, as they try to foment.

I love Sharpe. Any additional comments. This is a prequel novel, written at the request of the producers of the TV series to provide a sort of origin for Sharpe's situation in the Peninsular.

The first of Richard Sharpe’s Indian adventures, pitting him against the sinister Tippoo Sultan in the siege of Seringapatam, Like most of the Sharpe novels this one is based on a real campaign, and almost all of the actions described in the book really did take place.

Sharpe’s Rifles The beginning of the Peninsular War (the battles between and to expel the French from Portugal and Spain). The Peninsular Campaign occupies most of the Sharpe series and this book begins during the infamous retreat to Corunna, but ends in a purely fictional battle.

The Sharpe series (Sharpe's Regiment, Sharpe's Siege, etc.) reverts to and Sharpe's early days as an officer in French-occupied Spain. Still extremely uncomfortable with the battlefield commission given him by the future Duke of Wellington, Lt. Richard Sharpe of The Rifles becomes the officer in charge of a battered band of soldiers when his Captain falls in a vicious engagement with.

Sharpe's Rifles and the Spanish face several attacks from the murderous French and there is a love interest in Louisa, a Methodist English girl with a horror of an aunt - who is firmly put in her place by a "foul mouthed" Sharpe. There were a couple of twists in the story and the battles were different and not boring as I found in the siege/5().

This book is the first volume of the series, but not the first chronologically in the series. I personally would have preferred to start with 'Sharpe's Tiger' which is where Richard Sharpe begins his career as a Rifleman as a Private.

Then continuing the readings chronologically following his military Sharpe's Rifles, LT.5/5(5). The books follow Sharpe’s progress in the British army.

The series was adapted into a television film series with Sean Bean playing Richard Sharpe. The Richard Sharpe series began in with Sharpe’s Eagle, followed closely by Sharpe’s Gold, although the historical chronology is different from the publication order.

When Sharpe rises from the ranks to take command, he finds himself with an unexpected ally in the war against Napoleon. It’sand the powerful French juggernaut is sweeping across Spain.
